Playa del Carmen is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean. The city is relatively young and quite small, but very close to Cancun airport which is easily accessible by bus.

Playa del Carmen is found in the Quintana Roo state, in the so-called Riviera Maya. It is an area where you can enjoy learning about Mexico´s proud past, and the history of one of the most important populations in Central America: the Mayans.

After the boom in the tourist industry in recent years, this small city lives off the services that it provides for its visitors. Huge resorts or small family hotels… you can choose what you want according to your tastes or preferences. There is every type of restaurant, but, the best thing you can do when you visit Mexico is try authentic Mexican food.

The impressive Mayan cities that still survive are a magical paradise. Visit Tulún with its white beach; Chitchén Itzá, capital of the Mayan cities which is full of incredible buildings: a pyramid from which you can see the whole city, an astronomical observatory built by the Mayans, the Mayan ball court; Coba, one of the last cities to be discovered and which is still being studied…
But more than that, in Playa del Carmen you can enjoy the stunning sandy white beaches with a Caribbean sea that looks straight from the movies. You can try an endless number of water sports: kayaking, scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing... and you can also visit the coral reef, which is the second largest in the world after the one in Australia. Experience a fantastic voyage to the bottom of the sea where you will see the multi-coloured tropical fish and marine turtles.

The state of Quintana Roo relies on its nature reserves, which protect its wealth of flora and fauna. Visit the Xel-Ha parks which are home to the most spectacular natural aquarium in the Mayan Riviera; or the Xcaret Park, which is a definite must!

Without a doubt, visiting Playa del Carmen will be an unforgettable experience for you, and one that you will probably want to repeat.
